From the vibrant new Hiscox office in York, Millard’s innovation-focused role with Hiscox Futures ensured the £500m insurance company continually provided great customer service across the world. Key to his success was the drive to constantly improve and embrace technology.

In exploring why innovation is so important today, Millard’s talk will offer advice on how to innovate from the perspective of an already established business and explore the impact of the digital era on jobs under threat in the future.

Whilst recognising that it can be hard for established businesses to innovate, regional businesses of all sizes will benefit from tips and techniques for ‘playing in the traffic’ of our digital age, including gaining a better understanding of target customers, barriers to success and how to get good at failing many times.

The lecture forms part of the Business Insights series presented by York Business School at York St John University and provides an opportunity for the wider business community to join students and staff to hear some of the country’s leading business people reflecting on contemporary business issues. The sessions showcase York Business School’s extensive links with the business community and provide an excellent opportunity for knowledge exchange and networking.

The Alan Millard Business Insight lecture takes place at 5.30 on Monday 13 February at the De Grey Court Lecture Theatre on York St John University’s Lord Mayors Walk Campus. Tickets are free and can be booked from the events calendar.
